This one-week Introduction Course gives you an understanding of the general principles of international arbitration. International arbitration is used to solve cross-border disputes and is often the preferred method instead of taking the dispute to court. In this course, you will learn how arbitration works, who decides the disputes, what is the process of arbitration, and practise drafting arbitration clauses. You will learn:
Why use arbitration?
International arbitral bodies and what type of disputes can they hear
Arbitration Agreement – what should it contain and how to draft it
Selection of the arbitral panel
Process of a typical arbitration hearing
Arbitration award validity
Enforcing Arbitral award
What is UNCITRAL
Boundary disputes and how are they resolved – case examples
UNCLOS – United Nations Convention Law of the Seas – case examples
At the end of this course, delegates will take part in a mock arbitration hearing to put in practise their skills, and we’ll arrange a visit to the London Centre of International Arbitration
